Heritage Open Day: St Thomas and St John's church is a Grade II listed building occupying a prominent position in the centre of Radcliffe, Greater Manchester. It houses a famous historic organ and a stained glass window depicting Radcliffe coat of arms. The parish of St Thomas was created from the ancient parish of Radcliffe. The first church of St Thomas was built in 1819 in the Grecian style. When it was judged too small to accommodate the growing population it was demolished and a new church was built on the site in 1864 with seating for 1200 people. It was built in the perpendicular style with money donated by Countess Grosvenor. The tower was added in 1871. Although it was built to accommodate a peel of 6 bells it only ever had one.
