Knitting & Crochet Guild

Heritage Open Day: An opportunity to explore the Kitting & Crochet Guild collection of hand, machine knitting and crochet garments and household items, publications, yarn samples and shade cards, and tools and gadgets. Meet the volunteers who care for the collection. Find out how some of our unique hand and machine knitted and crocheted items have been designed and constructed. Explore styles of sleeves, necklines and shapes as we trace fashion trends and architectural features of garments the over the past hundred years, along with their corresponding patterns. Try to avoid sewing pieces together? See some of our garments constructed in one piece garments, 'join as you go' etc
View our collection of artefacts - needles, yarn holders and winders to name but a few. Find out how manufacturers of tools and gadgets adapted their designs to changes in fashion and the introduction of new yarns. See our collection of yarn samples and shade cards.
