Growing up in Victorian Leeds: the story of Anna Elizabeth Bilbrough, Mrs Joseph Town

Heritage Open Day: Catherine Wright's talk provides an introduction to her biography of her husband's great grandmother, touching on local, social and family history of Leeds at that time. Discover what it was like to grow up as an orphan in a comfortable household in Beech Grove Terrace, to be sent far away to school, to be married very young and what happened next. Catherine will describe how she was able to write the book making use of many letters, diaries and photographs left behind by the families concerned; families who were firm adherents of the Baptist Church and for whom life centred on the original South Parade Baptist Chapel.
