Heritage Open Day: Dereham Windmill is a Grade II listed windmill set in extensive grounds with a picnic area.
On each of the five floors there are illustrated explanations on what happened in each area, when the mill was full of noise and floor dust. Dereham Windmill is set in dog friendly grounds that are connected by a number of rural walks in and around the Dereham area.
Built in 1835, the windmill is a five-storey brick tower mill with a boat-shaped cap and a six-bladed fantail. The windmill was rescued from dereliction in the 1980s, but in 2010, all efforts to keep the mill open were unsuccessful, and it was boarded up. In 2011, a new group came forward, a board of trustees was formed, and the massive renovation project began.
