Heritage Open Day: A chance to look around the Grade 2 listed, Bawtry Masonic Hall originally built in the 13th Century as a Chapel of the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene The Grade 2 Listed, Bawtry Masonic Hall stands on the site of the Chapel of the Hospital of St Mary Magdalene. The existence of this Chapel can be traced back at least seven hundred years to the 13th Century. The building fell into disrepair in the mid 16th Century following the abolition of the Catholic Church by Henry VIII during the reformation.
Rebuilt in 1839 for local patron Edward Harwood Greaves of nearby Hesley Hall, the chapel was restored with seating accommodation for one hundred and eighty. The last religious services were conducted in 1928. The Chapel was acquired as a Masonic Hall in the early 1930s.
