Heritage Open Day: St Mary’s is a Grade 1 listed building and is the most interesting, spiritual, historic, architectural, educational, artistic, archaeological and aesthetic resource in Huggate. In 2024 the interior was restored to reveal new secrets. Come and explore the new accessible, flexible space in St Mary's created by re-ordering the interior in 2024 which revealing more of the historic architecture.
The church has had many redesigns in its history from the original 12th century wooden structure to the existing stone walls and slate roof.
The Norman origins can be seen in the 13th century round chancel arch and nave the strange round-headed windows in the eastern gable.
Both gables of the nave show evidence of different roof structures.
