The secret staircase - uncovered in 2024 behind a cupboard!
WW11 reinforcements to the basement as an air-raid shelter 154 High Street is a substantial former Sea Captain’s house, largely built during the Georgian period, with an Edwardian extension. There is a significant amount of original period detailing, including panelling, fireplaces and an impressive main staircase. A smaller staircase was recently discovered behind a cupboard and still has remnants of Regency wallpaper.
The building is perhaps best known as the former home of the vet Plunkett’s.
