Heritage Open Day: St Lawrence church is a landmark building located next to Bradwell Castle Mound in Bradwell Village. This is an opportunity to see the interior and learn some of its 800 years of history. You can support the building by joining us for tea and cake! St Lawrence church is a 13th Century Grade II* listed building located in Bradwell Village. The 16th century church tower has a distinctive ‘Saddleback’ roof dating from, c1830. Over the centuries the building has grown and undergone numerous alterations, but at its core the Romanesque/ Early English Gothic architecture remains. We have a number of beautiful Victorian stained-glass windows and many other points of interest, including some of the oldest bells in the county. The first vicar was installed in 1223 and at that time the Advowson for the church was granted to Tickford Priory, not to the nearby Bradwell Abbey (Priory) as one would have expected.
