Castlethorpe Church Open Days

Heritage Open Day: The recently renovated medieval church of Ss Simon & Jude in Castlethorpe has late Norman architecture, an impressive 17th century monument to Sir Thomas Tyrrill and an environmentally-friendly churchyard. We invite you to look around. Come and explore our Grade 1 listed parish church, which is sited on what was the motte of a Norman castle. Some stonework dates from about 1250 although much of it was rebuilt a hundred years later. There are two medieval mass dials on the wall facing the road.
Inside, church members will be on hand to point out interesting features including the 14th century font, the Cannon memorial window (a train and ploughing horses represent Castlethorpe’s later history) and a recently restored large monument to the Tyrrill family near the altar.
