MK Greek Orthodox Community - Our history, our buildings

Heritage Open Day: Visit our buildings and gardens, learn about the history of our Community, Church, Greek School, Ladies Charity organisation. Whilst searching to find out if there were people of similar Greek/Hellenic background in the growing area of Milton Keynes, the idea of establishing a Greek Orthodox community was born around 1986. The Community was created in 1989 with the aim to meet the needs of the said people. Since day 1 the search began to find a suitable building with character to link the Hellenic traditions with the history of the Area to house Religion, Education and Culture under one roof. The search culminated by finding the former Church of St Mary’s, Wolverton (built by George Gilbert Scott in 1864, acquired by us in 2009) and its Parish rooms (by Architect, Swinfen Harris, acquired in 2010) next to it. Now, the Church covers the needs of other Orthodox Christians in the area.
