Fort Brockhurst

Heritage Open Day: Fort Brockhurst, one of several forts built in the 1850s and 1860s to protect Portsmouth and its vital harbour against a French invasion. The Keep of Fort Brockhurst will be the centre of activity for Heritage Open Days.

The Fort Cumberland Guard, probably the oldest re-enactment unit in the UK, depict Royal Marines of 1830 to 1860 with a corps of drums, infantry and artillery sections. You'll be able to visit their Museum room, speak with the members, examine the uniforms, and get up close to some of their equipment. In a similar way, you can visit displays by Pompey Pals as they remember local people who served in the Military over the last 150 years. Their displays of uniform and equipment are fascinating.
