Heritage Open Day: Wherever there is a National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) station, a watchkeeper will be looking out for danger and ensuring safety on the water and along the coastline. Drop in to hear about NCI's vital voluntary work along our waters and shores. The National Coastwatch is an integral part of the National Search and Rescue Organisation (SAR) and is answerable directly to HM Coast Guard. High technology and sophisticated systems such as radar and telecommunications have vastly improved safety at sea, but there is no substitute for a watchful pair of eyes.
This short talk by the Watch Keeper will inform you of the work at the Lee NCI Station, and include a visit to the bridge to view the equipment they use to aid in keeping sharp eyes along the coast.
