Heritage Open Day: St Mary the Virgin is Henbury's only parish church. Come and be amazed by its rich beauty. You will also discover the fascinating—and often controversial—stories of the people whose lives have been connected to St Mary's over the centuries. St Mary's church is not only very decorative, but it's also full of fascinating history, which can be explored through the life stories of the generations of people connected to the church over hundreds of years. We are always finding out more about the stories of our past and learning to understand and learn from them, especially the stories which are challenging in our modern world, such as those around the lives connected with the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which was a big part of Henbury's (and Bristol's) history.
