Ceremony & Splendour

The Simon de Montfort Society is an educational and heritage charity based in Evesham, where we promote understanding of the history of the Middle Ages. We run regular evening lectures and other events, and we are currently publicising our 2025 day school, in Evesham on Saturday, October 11th 2025. The theme of this year’s day school is “Ceremony & Splendour”. This will including a lecture on the blood-spattered subject of the tourney, by author, re-enactor and lecturer, Rob Jones, a pumpkin-juice-spattered living history and combat demonstration by The House of the Twin-Tailed Lion, a look at the nature of royalty by Professor David Carpenter and a view on nobility in the Middle Ages by Professor Peter Coss. Popular history, serious history, living history, a smorgasbord of talks, presentations and demonstrations with celebrity lecturers. A grand day out for history buffs and anyone with an interest in medieval history. We have aimed for the mix of erudition, education and entertainment that has become the unique selling point of our day schools and lectures.
