Friendship group brings new meetups to Medway
A new regular meetup aimed to help Medway residents make new friends locally, has been launched in Gillingham by a local friendship group.
The host, Medway Oddfellows, which also runs similar events throughout the country, says all are welcome to join them at the next ‘Coffee and Company’ event being held at Bredhurst Village Hall on Friday 10 October at 10am. Newcomers will receive a free tea or coffee and be treated to complimentary homemade cake.
Social Organiser at Medway Oddfellows, Amy Thomas, promises lots to look forward to. She said: “We think it’s important that people have the opportunity to get together and connect with other friendly people in their community.
“We’ve a number of similar groups running all over the country which are always really well attended, with people from all sorts of backgrounds and different interests coming along, but this is our first venture into Medway and we’re really excited about it.
“Anyone is welcome to come along and you can be sure of a warm welcome.”
Attendees to the coffee morning will be able learn about Medway Oddfellows, its other events, and all the benefits of joining the group.
Other events the friendship group is planning include meals out, quizzes and games, guest speakers and day trips.
The Oddfellows also hosts around 60 online events every month which are free and open to all, including member-hosted online open days where attendees can find out more about the Society.
Medway Oddfellows is made up of mostly older and retired local members, and is part of the Lord Byron Branch of the Oddfellows. It is one of 96 branches that make up the Oddfellows’ nationwide network, which is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the UK.
The Society aims to improve its members’ lives through friendship and support. As well as its events, Oddfellows members can access a variety of benefits including care and welfare support and a travel club.
