Botanical beauty – Cardiff care home hosts community art exhibition

A care home in Cardiff is opening its doors to the local community for a very special art exhibition.

Care UK’s Llys Cyncoed, on Cyncoed Road, is hosting an unveiling of an exhibition showcasing the botanical art from resident and award-winning artist, Vivien Burgess.

The exhibition, called “Life in Bloom” will be officially unveiled by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cardiff on Friday 3 October at 3 pm.

Guests will enjoy an afternoon of canapés and fizz, while viewing 28 original pieces of Vivien’s work, displayed throughout the home’s library, alongside her miniature paintings in specially curated cases.

Vivien’s art venture began in the 1980s, pressing flowers between the pages of old Yellow Pages and creating intricate collages. Her work caught the eye of Liberty’s of London, who featured her pressed flower pictures in their collection. As trends evolved, Vivien shifted to botanical painting, studying at Richmond College, West Dean College in Chichester, and Wisley RHS Gardens.

Her work, which has been displayed in many galleries, has won her many awards from the Society of Botanical Artists, the Royal Horticultural Society, and the Ringwood Art Society. She also became a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists and a member of both the Royal Miniature Society and the Hilliard and Limners Societies.

All proceeds from artwork sold during the exhibition will be donated to charities chosen by Vivien.
