The 29th Annual Bug Day (Online)

The Florence Nightingale Museum is taking part in Bug Day!

It’s all about bugs – you know the yucky one’s that can make you sick!

If you’re interested prevention and control of communicable diseases, and health issues in the community or healthcare setting then this is the conference for you.

“Nationally and internationally recognized experts will present timely topics in infectious diseases and public health at Manitoba’s largest healthcare continuing professional development event. Held every year during National Infection Prevention & Control Week, Bug Day is streamed online – it’s FREE – and you’re invited.”

Staff member Melissa Wert will be presenting a talk entitled Florence Nightingale: A Pioneer in Infection Prevention and Control.

In this talk, we will be reflecting on Florence Nightingale who is often referred to as the ‘Mother of Modern Nursing’. Not only did she save countless lives nursing the wounded at Scutari Hospital, but she was also a pioneer in evidence based healthcare, leading to widespread changes and reforms. By using statistical data, she was able to notice previously unrecognized links and gain respect within the male dominated spaces of medicine and statistics. This data allowed for the implementation of methods that directly resulted in the decrease in the spread of disease and fatality rates.
