Hot on the heels of their award winning ‘This Secret Isle’ and this summer’s ‘Murder Walks’, Double Act drama group is embracing the joy, laughter, and utter mayhem that only a pantomime can provide. Expect a vibrant mix of fairy tale favourites and fantastical new twists in this imaginative tale - where nothing is quite what it seems. ‘Alice In Cuckoo Land’ is a twist on ‘Alice In Wonderland’ but with some ‘Looking Glass’ characters and Santa Claus thrown in for good measure! Well, what can we say - it is a pantomime after-all!
From Dog to Dame. At the heart of this years panto is the dame, ‘Old Mother Wobbly’ played by none other than David Wellstead, as he returns to his original theatrical family for this production. David made his acting debut with Double Act in 2001 as ‘Dog’ in our production of “Pantomime Pie”. He then grew up with us and learnt his craft in many of our shows, getting his first taste of being a Dame in “Cinderella” 2008 and perfecting his Damehood(?) in “Aladdin” 2014 before going on to direct our “Agatha Crusty & the Village Hall Murders” in 2017. More recently he has been expanding his repertoire and wowing audiences in Swanage as part of the Swanage Drama Group.
First Time Director. Trying to contain and marshal all the craziness is first time director Paulette Stephens, a long standing member of the drama group. It takes great courage to adopt the difficult and demanding mantle of Director so we all wish her well and will be providing all the support she needs. Oh, no you won’t! Oh, yes we will! Stop it!
So, whether you're young or simply young at heart, ‘Alice in Cuckoo Land’ promises to be an unmissable evening of theatrical fun. So gather your friends, warm up your vocal cords, and prepare for a panto like no other... Oh Yes it is!
