Suitable for ages 14+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
What You’ll Learn
Our Bronze Navigator syllabus covers the fundamentals, including:
Understanding maps (OS & Harvey) and their key features
Setting the map to ground by eye and compass
Identifying landmarks, grid references, contours and symbols
Measuring distances, pacing and timing
Route planning, hazard awareness and emergency actions
Basic compass bearings
Navigation strategies for varied terrain and conditions
Personal and group safety in the outdoors
All successful candidates receive an NNAS e-certificate.
Location & Facilities
Start/Finish: Avebury & Marlborough Downs, Wiltshire
Map required: OS 157 Marlborough & Savernake Forest (can be provided)
Facilities: Toilets available in Avebury (none on training routes)
Equipment Needed
Essential kit includes:
Walking boots or trail shoes
Waterproof jacket & trousers
Warm layers, hat, gloves
Rucksack (30L)
Map & compass (can be provided)
Packed lunch, snacks & water
A full personal kit list will be provided on booking.
