Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane in Cringleford, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members on Saturday 29th November at 11am–3pm.
The event is part of Care UK’s Step into Christmas initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.
On the day, the care home will host festive craft sessions including card making. Visitors can also browse a selection of stalls from local artisans offering gifts for all ages.
Resident Margaret Wood, aged 87, said: “Christmas back in the day was simple but full of heart. We didn’t have fancy lights or big gifts, but we had each other. Family gathered around the fire and the smell of home-cooked food and laughter filled the whole house. Those memories remind me that the real magic of Christmas isn’t in what you have, but in who you share it with.”
To add to the festive fun, there will be a Santa’s grotto, where guests can meet Father Christmas himself. Entry to the grotto is £3, with all proceeds proudly donated to Alzheimer’s Society.
Pedro Campos, Home Manager at Cavell Court, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year, and this event allows us to honour memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.
“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community, celebrate the season and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.
“We’d like to encourage local people to join us to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Norwich.”
