Padley Gorge and Longshaw Estate | Peak District | Group Hike
Wander through wonderful woodland near Padley Gorge and the Longshaw Estate, and take in all the curiosity’s and history along the way! Explore this Site of Special Scientific Interest, take in the view from a Tor, wander through wonderful woodland, and take in all the curiosity’s and history along the way! Including iconic bridges, ancient waymarkers, a Duke’s chair, a ‘Wishing Tree’, Little Johns Well and more!
Distance: approx 7.5/8km
Elevation: approx 170m total over the course of route
Grade: Light Hiking. Mostly easy footpaths and trails with some uphill sections (may feel like a couple of flights of stairs along the way!). Some sections of the paths will be a little uneven underfoot at times, may be some slightly muddier sections if there has been recent rain. Time: 10am start for 3.5-4 hours. Note we will meet by 9.50am to leave at 10am.
Who is the event for: Everybody is welcome! (aged 18+)
Who will be your guide? I’m Sara and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in West Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District. I’ve always been active but hiking became a real passion and I’m excited to share my love for adventure with you! Where we’ll meet: We’ll be meeting at Wooden Pole Car Park – NT, Longshaw, Hope Valley, S32 2HX. Paid for car park or free for National Trust Members (correct at time of typing).
What to bring: Hiking boots or shoes with good grip Snacks or lunch to keep you happy and sustained for around 4 hours Rucksack Water (at least 1L) Waterproofs Warm layers, hat and gloves A personal first aid kit with any medications or things you’d usually have on you Optional extras: Walking poles, sit mat, hot drink
What will the terrain be like? Mostly trails and footpaths, some uneven and rocky areas, possibly some muddy sections.
Note about Toilets: There are no toilets at the car park, but there will be facitlites in the first hour of the walk at longhsaw estate if you wish. There won’t be anymore along the way after that on the wa
