Ferndown care home to welcome community for festive fun

A care home in Ferndown is embracing the yuletide season by opening its doors for a special reminiscence event.

Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members for a 1950s-themed party on Monday 8th December at 5pm-7pm.

The event is part of Care UK’s ‘Step into Christmas’ initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.

On the day, Ferndown Manor will be hosting a traditional Christmas party, featuring toe-tapping tunes from the 50s as well as carols from Winton Salvation Army.

To add to the festive spirit, mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate will be prepared by the home’s head chef.

Resident Pam Clarke said: “I have lots of memories of my family traditions. We always helped make the dinner together, laughed at the jokes in the crackers, play board games and finished off the day with hot chestnuts and Christmas Carols.”

Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting a 1950s-style Christmas party that will bring the golden era back to life.

“The residents here have been sharing memories of festive celebrations from their youth and we can’t wait to recreate that magic with the wider community.

“From vintage decorations to classic carols and treats, it is set to be an event to remember, and we encourage the people of Ferndown to come along and party with us!”
