Birmingham Folk Workshop: Session Skills

Birmingham Folk Workshop: Session Skills

Session skills and the unwritten rules: How to find your place at the local session

Been to a few sessions but still unsure about how to join in with the music confidently? Curious about coming along but not sure where to start?

Join Katie for a relaxed and informal beginner-friendly workshop and session at the Old Moseley Arms, Birmingham. Whether you’re bringing an instrument or just have some questions, this is a great space to learn, play, and chat.

We’ll cover some of the key things that can feel like barriers for newcomers, including:
• Session etiquette (the often unspoken rules!)
• Building confidence in a group setting
• How to learn and choose repertoire
• Starting tunes and building your own sets

This will be a mix of playing and informal discussion, open to all levels - because there’s always more to learn from one another, no matter where you’re at in your journey.

Bring a tune if you’d like, or just bring yourself!
