Ravenscourt Park: Seasons of Light - paintings and drawings

'Seasons of Light' is an exhibition of paintings and drawings of Ravenscourt Park, by local artist Amy Shuckburgh. The exhibition is on the ground floor of the historic Curtis Building, and the show overlooks the park, so that the works on the walls echo and reflect the scenes through the window.

Amy grew up in the area, and has lived near Ravenscourt Park for much of her life. She explores the park’s landmarks - the viaduct, the paddling pool, the pond and footpaths - returning repeatedly to familiar views, each time seen slightly differently. The park is never static, but always changing, with the people who pass through it, the altering light, the weather and the season.

Amy uses soft pastel and oil paint to create landscapes that are filled with colour and movement. Although the scenes she paints rarely contain discernible figures, her canvases convey a sense of animation and energy, as if registering the frequencies of passers-by, just out of sight.
