St Ives care home to host monthly dementia-friendly exercise sessions

A care home in St Ives is set to hold a monthly exercise programme designed for those living with dementia.
Care UK’s Field Lodge, on London Road, is opening its doors to the community for Love to Move sessions on the fourth Monday of every month, with the next sessions taking place on 26th January and 23rd February.
They will include simple, seated exercises to support cognitive stimulation and improve memory and mobility.
Love to Move was created by the British Gymnastics Foundation as a programme of exercises developed to provide physical, emotional and cognitive benefits. The basic, repetitive exercises use bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns – which simply means making different movements with the right and left sides of the body at the same time.
Linda Martinez, Home Manager at Field Lodge, said: “It’s important for us all to keep active as we age, but many people are unaware that exercising can be particularly helpful for people living with dementia.
“The aim of our Love to Move sessions is to provide a fun morning of dance, a chance to reminisce and an opportunity to stimulate the brain through movement.
“We hope to see many faces from the St Ives community join us for these monthly sessions.”
