The Royal Hospital Chelsea Lecture Series - The House of War

Join Sir Simon Mayall as he guides you from Caliph Umar’s 7th-century capture of Jerusalem to the fall of the Ottoman Empire after the First World War, highlighting some of the most consequential battles in global history.

Uncover the narrative of a centuries-long contest for political, military, ideological, economic and religious dominance—pitting Christian popes, emperors and kings against Muslim caliphs and sultans.

The lecture will be hosted in our magnificent State Apartments and will be preceded by a drinks reception. After the event, General Mayall will sign copies of his book.
