Fort William Mountain Festival

Nestled beneath Ben Nevis, Fort William is the gateway to some of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in the UK. For the festival, the town becomes a lively hub for everyone drawn to adventure and the outdoors. Expect inspiring talks and presentations, powerful films, live performance and hands-on workshops that explore risk, resilience, creativity and our relationship with the natural world.

From shared evening experiences to daytime opportunities to learn new skills outside, it’s a chance to connect with world-class landscapes, fresh ideas and a welcoming community of mountain enthusiasts with a passion for mountain culture.

Audiences can look forward to insights from leading adventurers and storytellers, including Hamish Frost and Ryan Balharry on mountain photography and the realities of capturing adventure in the Scottish mountains; record-breaking endurance athlete, Holly Wootten, who shares the defining moments of her journey to winning the Dragons Back Race 2025; and Al Todd, Snowsports Director of Mountaineering Scotland, who recounts the thrills and challenges of 30 years of ski touring in the Highlands. Lily Canter, an ultra-runner, journalist, and co-author of Ultra Women: The Trailblazers Defying Sexism in Sport, will shine a light on female endurance athletes.

Themes of risk, resilience and the environment run throughout the programme and across Lochaber, Explore Events offer the chance to take part in outdoor and indoor workshops: from winter skills and trail running to adventure filmmaking, mountain illustration, geology, wild swimming and more.
