Doktor Kaboom! brings 3 unmissable shows to The Lowry Quays Theatre

Families looking for a show that’s equal parts laughter, learning and explosive fun should mark their calendars for Doktor Kaboom!, arriving at the iconic The Lowry this Easter. The award-winning comic science sensation will perform three special shows at the venue’s Quays Theatre on 5–6 April 2026, and no two performances will ever be the same.

Created and performed by American comedian and educator David Epley, Doktor Kaboom! has become one of the most talked-about family shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in recent years. Now, after four years of sold-out Fringe appearances, the high-energy character is bringing his chaotic blend of comedy and science to England for the very first time.

At the heart of the show is the brilliantly unpredictable Wheel of Science. Packed with more demonstrations than can possibly fit into one performance, the giant spinning wheel decides what experiment happens next. That might mean launching a water-bottle rocket, electrifying a pickle, creating artificial gravity or triggering a spectacular chemical reaction — all while volunteers from the audience help bring the science to life on stage.

Praised by critics as “a supremely silly hour of science” and a “one-of-a-kind comedy”, the show combines jaw-dropping demonstrations with razor-sharp humour. Children are encouraged to get involved, ask questions and even become the heroes of the experiment, while adults will find plenty of laughs along the way.

More than just entertainment, Doktor Kaboom! also slips in empowering messages about curiosity, confidence and creativity. It’s a show designed to spark young imaginations while reminding grown-ups just how fun science can be.

With rave reviews, multiple awards, including the 2025 SPARK Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science Education, and a reputation for thrilling crowds, this action-packed family show promises a memorable Easter outing in Salford.
