Cerne Giant Festival - The Spring at the Giant's Feet

James Rattue has been researching the holy wells of England for four decades and wrote the first attempt to place these folkloric sites in historical context, 'The Living Stream' back in 1995. More recently he has published The Holy Wells of Dorset. This talk will look at Cerne Abbas's celebrated St Augustine's Well, discuss how it fits in with similar sites and the way holy wells functioned as part of the medieval church.
