Blindfolded bites – Ferndown care home to host sensory dinner

A care home in Ferndown is inviting the local community to dine in the dark to raise money for charity.

The blindfolded dinner will be held at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, on Thursday 23rd April from 4pm–6pm.

Guests will experience what it’s like to eat a meal while visually impaired, raising awareness for those living with sight loss, with the proceeds being donated to Guide Dogs UK.

On arrival, visitors will be blindfolded and guided to their table to feast on a delicious dinner complete with a complimentary glass of wine. Those attending are kindly asked to donate £10 towards the charity.

Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “According to Guide Dogs UK, every day 250 people start to lose their sight in the UK*. However, guide dogs help people keep their independence.

“At Ferndown Manor, we care for many residents living with sight loss, and we have seen first-hand how the experiences of individuals and their families can be transformed by having access to the right information, helpful tools and support.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the community for our dining-in-the-dark event and raising awareness and money for Guide Dogs UK.”

Ferndown Manor has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives in a luxury environment. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
