Stevenage funeral home to host end-of-life planning event

A funeral home in Stevenage is inviting the local community to take part in an open conversation around life and future planning.

On Thursday 7th May from 3pm-4.30pm, Co-op Funeralcare Stevenage, on Old Town High Street, will deliver a ‘Circle of Life’ workshop in collaboration with local community group, Being Mortal.

Being Mortal, developed by PATCHATT Community Group, runs workshops to encourage participants to celebrate life, as well as acknowledge, talk about and plan for death, dying and bereavement.

The Circle of Life project is designed to encourage people at any stage of life to reflect on their experiences and consider what may matter most to them in the future, including end-of-life wishes.

During the session, participants can take part in a guided activity using a circular template to explore different stages of their lives, from early childhood through to the present day. The workshop also provides an opportunity to begin thinking about future wishes, such as funeral plans and wills, helping attendees to start important conversations with those close to them.

Duncan Oatham, Funeral Director at Co-op Funeralcare Stevenage, said: “We’re pleased to be hosting this event for the local community and working alongside Being Mortal to create a space where people can reflect on their lives and what matters most to them.

“Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of death and find it difficult to talk about it. Having these all-important conversations can help people plan for the future better and ensure their wishes are communicated to their loved ones.

“We hope this session will help people feel more confident starting those discussions with family and friends.”
