Based on her memoir, Cambridge lecturer Helen MacDonald (Claire Foy) processing grief for her father (Brendan Gleeson) finds herself in falconry & friendship with Mabel, a goshawk
When her adored father, respected photojournalist Alisdair MacDonald dies suddenly from a heart attack, Helen's grief sends her spiralling into an abyss. To help navigate her profound loss and preserve the memories of their shared love of the natural world, she retreats from the human world to train a wild goshawk, that she calls Mabel. But as she teaches Mabel to hunt and fly free, Helen discovers how deeply she has neglected her own emotions and life. Her unique bond with Mabel reintroduces her to the beauty of life and nature. What begins as an act of endurance transforms into an intimate journey of resilience and healing.
Claire Foy gives an exceptional performance as Helen in Philippa Lowthorpe’s beautifully realised and emotionally charged adaptation of Helen MacDonald’s award-winning memoir, with stunning cinematography, filmed in locations across the South West and Wales as well as in Cambridge.
