Our work evolved around the concept of ‘Thin Spaces’. We asked, what does ‘Thin Spaces’ mean? Our discoveries included the universal phenomenon of threshold or doorway: the ending of something and the beginning of something new. Places, phenomena or experiences that give us a sense of the unknown or unseen, yet full of promise and potential, comfort or possibly even dread. This is surely something we can all relate to?
What became clear to us is the wonderous thought: how ‘Thin Spaces’ always have and likely always will connect humans around the world. In every culture, religion, or belief system, we celebrate them, in our different ways. We create rituals and ceremonies around them. We observe rules and practices and imbue objects with significance or protective qualities. We create narratives and myths, with a common goal. To make sense of the incomprehensible.
