A care home in Isleworth is inviting the local community to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe.
On Friday 8th May from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Charlotte House, on Snowy Fielder Waye, is opening its doors to honour the 81st anniversary of VE Day with its very own party.
VE Day marks the moment Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.
Visitors to Charlotte House will be able to dance the afternoon away with live music from Jason Redrup and enjoy food and refreshments specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef.
Visitors and residents will also be able to see three military vehicles up close when they arrive on the day – such as an Austin Champ (1954), a Daimler Ferret Mk1 Scout Car (1953), and a Willys Jeep MB (1943) – encouraging reminiscence of the era.
Resident Ann Lane said: “I remember being in my gran’s house, as we all lived on the same road, and my aunt came in on her lunch break to tell us the war was over. I remember the street parties and everyone coming together.”
Elisabeta Carmen Surligeanu, Home Manager at Charlotte House, added: “We’re thrilled to be marking the anniversary of VE Day with the help of the community and especially excited to dance to wartime classics!
“We know this is a very important milestone for residents and are looking forward to having the opportunity to learn more about this poignant period in history, as well as host a fantastic party.
“On behalf of the whole team, I’d like to extend our welcome to the community for what we anticipate will be an unforgettable day.”
