Combining the works of oil painter Sophie Maloney & screen printer Sue Barnes, The Old Shop
Pop-Up Gallery offers an exhibition of the contrast between town & country: city & sea scapes.
Both artists regularly exhibit at the annual ‘Summer at the Beach’ festival which is held at
Waterbeach Barracks each August. Sue Barnes, a screen printer, is inspired by architecture, exploring the negative space that is created by buildings as well as their design and dramatic lines. In contrast, Sophie Maloney works mostly with oils on canvas, creating land and seascapes inspired by the historic competition of water and land in the Fens.
The Old Shop Pop-Up Gallery offers exhibition space to local and emerging artists on the second
weekend of each month (excluding August) throughout the year. Each month we feature a different artist/s, championing a diverse range of styles and mediums. We support the visitor experience with a free exhibition guide, large print guide, audio descriptive guide and a virtual gallery.
The Old Shop - Creative Space is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Hingham,
Norfolk. Formerly a Victorian general store, the space is now home to a wide range of visual,
written & performing artistic activities which are overseen by owners Sue Moore & Clio Burroughs
with Gallery Consultant, Lorraine Pajak. The current programme includes: The Hingham Vocal
Studio - Singing & Drama lessons with contralto Sue Moore, Artist Studio Space to hire, & a 5*****
Airbnb as well as our monthly Pop-Up Gallery. Future projects include weekly poetry & monthly
book groups.
