With balloons and banners and in glad-rags and dancing shoes Samling Academy invites you
to a party celebrating the 30th birthday of Samling Institute’s work inspiring musical
excellence in young people.
The 1920s glamour of Gatsby’s parties provides the setting for this fizzing cabaret evening
with guests dropping in from Venetian carnivals and moonlit nights in Paris. In a programme
of song and opera that includes scenes from La traviata, La bohème and The Gondoliers you’ll
meet a cast of time-travelling revellers, gate crashers and hangers-on who can’t resist joining
the celebrations.
Samling Academy is an intensive year-long training programme for young classical singers
who live or study in North East England. Singers who are selected for this programme are
coached by world-class vocal teachers, opera singers, pianists, actors and movement
specialists.
Joining the Academy Singers on stage are former members sopranos Camilla Harris and Zoë
Jackson and Samling Artists Ted Black (tenor) and Sid Ramchander (piano and music director).
The production is directed by Samling Artist Miranda Wright.
