Get hands-on with colourful inks and discover the art of screen printing in this fun, beginner-friendly workshop in Hackney. Perfect for complete beginners, this practical class will guide you through the entire screen-printing process, from preparing your design to printing your own edition of artwork.
You'll start with an introduction to screen printing and the studio, learning about the equipment, techniques and creative possibilities of the medium. You'll then coat your own screen and explore how artists use screen printing to create striking works.
Next, our experienced tutors will help you transform your image into a print-ready design using a mix of digital and analogue techniques. No prior experience with design software is needed—everything is explained clearly and at a comfortable pace.
Once your artwork is ready, you'll expose your design onto your screen to create a stencil for printing. You'll learn how professional exposure equipment works and how to prepare your screen for the printing stage.
In the afternoon, it's time to print. Using high-quality workshop paper supplied by GF Smith, you'll create your own small edition of one-colour prints while learning essential printing techniques and studio practices. Tutors will be on hand throughout the session to offer guidance and support.
By the end of the workshop, you'll take home your finished prints and leave with a solid understanding of the screen-printing process, giving you the confidence to continue exploring this creative craft in your own time
