A Paignton funeral home is celebrating the continued growth of its bereavement support group, launched four years ago.
Held on the first Friday of every month from 11am-1pm at Co-op Funeralcare Paignton, on Dartmouth Road, the sessions invite members of the local community to come together and support one another when faced with the loss of a loved one.
Established by the branch’s Funeral Director, Jennifer Barbour, the group has met monthly since its launch in 2022 and now regularly welcomes over 20 members. The sessions provide a supportive space for people to share experiences and connect with others over tea, coffee and maybe a few biscuits.
One group member said: “It’s been a lifesaver. Being able to sit and chat to like-minded people is invaluable and I look forward to coming every month. There is nothing like this anywhere else. I have made some lovely friends by coming.”
Jennifer Barbour, Funeral Director at Co-op Funeralcare Paignton, said: “The group offers a safe and welcoming space for people to come together and talk openly with others who truly understand what they’re going through. We know how important it is to feel supported after a loss, and this group helps people find comfort, connection and reassurance at a time when they need it most.
“It’s incredibly meaningful to see individuals who have experienced bereavement build friendships and support one another during the sessions. Creating opportunities like this for our community is a vital part of the care we’re proud to provide.”
The next session will be taking place on Friday 3 July at 11am.
