Summer by the River is offering Londoners and visitors the perfect excuse to swap the usual city routine for a summer escape beside the Thames.
The annual festival has transformed London Bridge City into a vibrant riverside destination, where visitors can enjoy everything from outdoor cinema and live music to big-screen sport, seasonal food and drink, all with uninterrupted views of Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast and the London skyline.
Whether it’s a relaxed afternoon by the water, a post-work drink as the sun sets, fun with the family in the summer holidays or an evening of entertainment under the stars, Summer by the River captures the feeling of a summer getaway without having to leave the capital.
At the heart of the experience is The Clubhouse, a stylish summer pop-up inspired by a classic English sports club, offering a laid-back setting overlooking the Thames. Visitors can settle in with pizza, strawberries and cream, ice cream and refreshing drinks while soaking up the riverside atmosphere.
Throughout August, The Clubhouse will host a programme of summer entertainment including mid-week drinks offers and family-friendly open-air film screenings from 7pm every Tuesday. Saturdays bring the riverside to life with DJ-led evenings from 6pm-8pm, creating the perfect soundtrack for long summer evenings overlooking the Thames.
Movie lovers can enjoy free outdoor cinema screenings, with upcoming dates including:
19 August- Burlesque
25 August - The Karate Kid (2010)
1 September – Jaws
8 September - National Theatre Live: Hamlet
The big screen offers a wide programme of sporting moments and entertainment
For those looking to add some activity to their visit, the much-loved riverside padel pop-up returns to Hay’s Galleria as part of London Sports Festival (until 23 August). The court gives visitors of all ages and abilities the chance to try one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
