Museum of Island History - free entry and history walk

Heritage Open Day: Discover Island history The Museum of Island History, housed in Newport’s iconic Guildhall, welcomes visitors on Saturday 12th September (10am–1pm). Journey through the Island’s past, from prehistoric fossils to modern-day festivals, as part of a Newport-wide Heritage Day with special events going on around the town.

Members of the public are also invited to join a unique immersive walk celebrating the life and poetry of Charlotte Mew devised by StoneCrabs Theatre. A poet who is rarely celebrated, Mew will lead visitors around Newport, talk about her past on the Island and how it inspired her work. Told through her spirit, this moving performance will chart her ultimately tragic life and give her poetry the recognition it deserves.
