Heritage Open Day: Free entry on 14–15 September. Explore London's canal history in a Victorian ice warehouse built for the 'Ice King of London'. Step aboard a narrowboat exhibit, discover the trades, people and horses of the canals. Free Ice Trade tours for adults. The museum is housed in an ice warehouse built in the early 1860s for Carlo Gatti, a Swiss-Italian entrepreneur who imported natural ice from Norway using London's canals to transport it from the docks. View into the two large ice wells beneath the building from above. They are the only Victorian ice wells in the UK that you can see. Learn more about the ice trade on a free guided tour for adults and young adults; tours are approx. 45 mins and start at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.
