Lath Mansion, Nelson Street

Heritage Open Day: How the rich lived. An imposing mansion, that is a fine Grade II* listed mid-17th-century house re-fronted circa 1730 for the ‘Samuel’ Browne dynasty of rich merchants. Six bays in two-and-a-half storeys of brown brick with quoins and a big pediments doorway. Grand hallway and impressive staircase with chandelier suspended from a fine ceiling. The house was converted to apartments in 1989.
