Bridgeland Street Heritage Day - Lavington United Reformed Church
Heritage Open Day: Lavington United Reformed Church is open for the day, along with other venues in Bridgeland Streetfrom 10 am until 2pm. Grade 2* Listed Building opened in 1859 still retains box pews and magnificent pipe organ. Displays & guides to show you round. Lavington United Reformed Church traces its history back to 1641 when an Independent Congregation was formed under the leadership of Revd William Bartlett. The Great Meeting Chapel building on Bridgeland Street was demolished by the Victorians in order to erect the current building with two spires. Inside you can see the original pews each one numbered and with doors. The magnificent pipe organ was built originally by William Sweetland of Bath in 1863 and later enlarged by Vowles of Bristol around 1900.
