Wivenhoe Memories Exhibition

Heritage Open Day: The annual exhibition of historic photographs of the town of Wivenhoe in north-east Essex. The exhibition draws on the 'Wivenhoe Memories' collection of the late John Stewart, a dedicated local historian who amassed thousands of photographs of Wivenhoe over many years. He used to hold an exhibition of these photographs every year and following his death in 2018 this popular event has continued. The theme of the exhibition this year is 'The 60s', a decade which saw major changes in Wivenhoe. The establishment of the University of Essex at Wivenhoe Park in 1964 was followed by the construction of its first buildings in the fashionable Brutalist style of architecture.
