Arrive via Shop. Step back in time at Orchard Side, the home of poet and letter writer William Cowper. He took pleasure in nature, his garden and his friendship with John Newton. Find out more about these two significant 18th century characters through the Cowper & Newton Story. We tell the story of John Newton's early years at sea, participation in the 18th century slave trade, and the events which led to him becoming a church minister, writer and preacher. See many of William Cowper’s personal belongings.
