Swing at the Library

Heritage Open Day: The Swing Riots of 1830 took this area completely by surprise. Come and explore what happened and how it all ended in a special travelling exhibition at Havant Library In November 1830, men from over the border in Warblington crossed into Hampshire and over a twelve hour period smashed up and destroyed nine threshing machines on farms right across the eastern part of what is now the Borough of Havant. In this special exhibition you can discover who did the damage, what happened to them and why they decided to show their displeasure at that key time in the agricultural year
