Not so Oddfellows

Heritage Open Day: Come and discover the Occupations of Isle of Wight Oddfellows joining the society at the end of the 19th and early 20th Century. Illustrated with photos and song!

Part of Oddfellows Friendship Month and Heritage Open Days. We have looked through our record cards to find out what Oddfellows were doing to earn a living in times past. From butchers, bakers, soldiers and sailors to a men's room attendant and a bookbinder, there are a huge variety of occupations included in our records. We have researched some of these jobs to find out how our members were living and the importance of a society like Oddfellows, in the days before Unions and the NHS.
