Heritage Open Day: Open Day at the Historic John Wesley's Chapel, Winchelsea on Saturday 12th September 2026 from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free all day with tea and coffee available. The Wesleyan Society was formed in Winchelsea at least by 1774 and this 'Preaching House' was built in 1785. John Wesley himself preached from the pulpit which is seen today in the Grade 2 listed Chapel in 1789. It is of particular historic importance because it is the only surviving Methodist chapel in Sussex in which John Wesley the founder of the Methodist Movement preached.
John Wesley visited Winchelsea on several occasions and was supportive of the local community.
