Heritage Open Day: Come and visit St Hilda's Parish Church, a few minutes' walk from Heaton Park.
The building is Grade II listed with many interesting features.
The church has columns made with sandstone from the Runcorn quarries. St Hilda's was built to replace an iron Mission Church, and has served the local community as the Church of England Parish Church since 1904. Th building is a fine late nineteenth and early twentieth-century church, constructed in white-flecked red brick with terracotta dressings, slate roofs and terracotta coped gables.
The building contains some fine examples of church furnishings, including a gilded reredos showing the Epiphany (Visit of the Wise Men to the infant Jesus), and a unique mural of Our Lady of Heaton Park.
