Heritage Open Day: The Universal Archive is a unique platform created to collate, digitise, preserve and disseminate stories of our past. The Kirkburton Village Archive has been created to store and share the heritage of the villages of Kirkburton and Highburton. In 2022 a large private archive belonging to Robert Carter a local historian, journalist and photographer was acquired to save and preserve it for the future. The archive was extensive containing documents, books, letters, maps, unpublished manuscripts and over 70,000 photographs. The archive continues to grow as new material is donated/incorporated.
